Although these photos was taken on November 23, 2010, for those of us who
live in the heart of the
Colorado Rocky Mountains,
we know winter starts in late Octber and ends in mid-April.
Our first major snowfall is typically in October with November being a full winter month.
It is around this time that most, if not all, ski areas are open for business and temperatures
tend to be below freezing most days.
Above is a snow photo taken near the Denny Creek Trailhead in the Sawatch Range. Beautiful snow covers a footbridge.

I titled this page "beautiful winter scenery" because nothing beats a fresh
layer of snow on a sunny day like today. Unfortunately I did not have my snowshoes with me, and so I merely
photographed the snow from the roadside.

This photo was taken near my house, and shows the grand view of
Mt. Princeton (alt. 14,197 feet),
the landmark mountain in Buena Vista, Colorado.
|
I traveled up this snowy road into the mountains ... |
... and the road become snowier and icier. |
These kinds of winter roads can be dangerous to drive on, but I've grown used to it. |
A photo of myself in front of a snowbank. This road, Chaffee County Road 306,
is closed for appoximately eight months of the year. Thanksgiving is in two days.
We will have a white Thanksgiving! :)
